4 Things to do with a Salad Spinner

Steel Salad spinner.jpg

Just Not All At Once

1) Spin greens, 2) use stainless bowl as a salad bowl, 3) Fill with ice, then beer, wine or champagne, 4) Steady ears of corn on the “spin peak” in the bottom to cut kernels from the cob. Thanks for the inspiration, Elise, on that last one.

Elise of Simply Recipes suggests using a bundt pan to balance and catch corn sliced from the cob. Since there was no bundt pan in my cabinet I went looking for an alternative. Oh good, another use and justification for the chic steel salad spinner. It has a no slip base which is a plus when slicing corn and the bowl is wide and deep enough to give you room to work. As a salad spinner it is hassle-free. The spinner goes fast with out wobbling on a small peak in the middle of the bowl and the lid comes apart for cleaning. The SteeL Salad Spinner from OXO has 6.34 quart bowl capacity and the basket holds 4.95. If there is room on the shelf the stainless spinner pulls its weight plenty to justify sizing up. If not OXO has recently started offering the steel spinner in a smaller size.
